Welcome to my kitchen, Today we will make Veg
Momos. Veg momos recipe, a popular street food, is a steamed dumpling with a
delicious vegetable filling served with a spicy red chutney or sauce. it is the most favorite food for kids today. Since the kids love the dish so much, it is
always great to make it at home. Momos are getting very popular in other parts
of India and you can easily prepare them at home. it is a very easy recipe. when
you want to eat street food then you can make it easily at home. so let's start to
make Veg Momos.
Ingredients
for
dough
- All purpose flour (Maida) 2-3 cups
- Oil 1-2 tsp
- Salt to taste
- Warm water to knead the flour
Ingredients
for Momos stuffing
- Cabbage 1 cup, finely chopped
- Carrot 2/3 cup, finely chopped
- Onion 1, medium size, finely chopped
- 2 small-sized spring onions- finely chopped
- Green chilies 1-2, finely minced
- Garlic 2 clove, finely minced
- Ginger 1/2", finely minced
- Soy sauce 1and half tsp
- Black pepper powder 1/4 tsp
- Salt to taste
(If
you can add beans and capsicum then take ⅓ cup chopped french beans and ¼ cup
chopped capsicum)
Making
dough for Momos
Step
1:- Take
the all-purpose flour, salt and oil in a bowl and mix it.
Mix
well and slowly add warm water to make a smooth and soft dough. Cover with a
lid the dough and keep aside for 30 minutes.
Making
stuffing for Momos
Step
1:- In
a thick bottomed pan heat oil.
Step
2:- Add
chopped garlic. Saute for 2-3 seconds.
Add
onions and saute for 10-15 seconds. Add all the finely chopped vegetables.
Step
3:- Fry
the vegetables on a medium to high flame. If your Kadai is not thick-bottomed, then saute the veggies on a low
flame.
stir
well and fry for 2 to 3 minutes.
Step
4:- Check
your vegetable. Then add soy sauce, salt, and pepper.
Continue
to stir fry on a medium to high flame for 2 to 3 minutes more.
Step
5:- Switch
off the flame and add 1 to 2 tbsp of the spring onions greens. Mix well.
Step
6:- Check
the taste of the mixture . if required you can add more spice powders in this
stage. like salt, pepper or soy sauce.
Now
we will be shaping the Momos
Step
1:- Take
the soft dough and make small lemon sized ball of the dough and keep them
covered with a moist napkin.
Step
2:- Now
take each dough ball and on a lightly dusted board, roll each dough ball into a thin circle of about 2-3 inch diameter.
Step
3:- Now
place 1 or 2 tsp of vegetable stuffing in the center. Do not overstuff as it
will be difficult to form a neat pouch shape.
Step
4:- Beginning
at one end of the flat circle, gather the edge to form pleats working your way
around the circle. Start folding and forming the pleats one by one. Towards the
end, join the pleats in the center. and seal the top.
Step
5:- Prepare
all momos this way and keep them covered under a moist napkin. momos are ready
for steaming.
Now
we will steam all prepare momos
(If
you are using a steamer)
Step
1:- Heat
water in a steamer or in an electric cooker or in a pressure cooker. Let the
water come to a boil.
Step
2:- Grease
the steamer pan or in idli molds,
Step
3:- Place
the prepare momos leaving a little space between each of them. keep remain
don't touch each other.
Step
4:- If
you steam the momos in idli pan or pressure cooker. steam them for 5-6
minutes. Don't overdo the steaming.
Step
5:- The momos are done when a shiny sheen appears over them.
Note:- If you are using
pressure cooker, don’t use the whistle while steaming the momos.
(If you do not have a steamer)
Note
:- Boil water in the pan, put oil-based momos in a steel
sieve and cover with the lid and cook with 10 mints
Serve veg momos with tomato-chili sauce or chili sauce. You can also serve it with red chili
garlic chutney.
