How to make Fish Curry



Welcome to my kitchen, today we will make Fish Curry.
Fish curry recipe is a Bengali delicacy. Bengalis are extremely fond of fish. it is called Maccher Jhol. Maccher Jhol means Fish (macch) in curry/gravy (jhol). It has few ingredients and they play an important part. The strong flavor of mustard and the hotness of green chilies make the dish terrific and different from other fish curries.
You can eat it at lunch or dinner. Along with being tasty in food, it is also beneficial for health so let's start to make fish curry (macche'r jhol)

Fish Curry

Ingredients for the marinate of Fish:
  • 2.2 pounds/1kg thickly cut carp steaks (cleaned and scales removed)
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup mustard oil


Ingredients for Gravy:
  • 4 tablespoons mustard oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • Salt - to taste.
  • 1 large onion, make a smooth paste
  • 1 tablespoon ginger garlic paste
  • 2-3 tomatoes finely chopped
  • 3-4 Green chilies
  • 1-1/2  tablespoon mustard seeds
  • Water - according to need
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened yogurt
  • Coriander leaves - chopped, for garnish

Making method of fish curry

Step 1:-Wash the fish well. and dry each piece with a paper towel.

Step 2:- First, take a large size bowl and sprinkle turmeric and salt over the cleaned fish and mix well. marinate every piece of fish.and set aside for 30 minutes.

Step 3:-Now in a pan, heat some oil and fry the marinated fish fillets until they turn golden brown. Fry the pieces of fish until each one is golden on both sides. Remove them from the pan and drain the excess oil using a paper towel

Step 4:- Heat the cooking oil in other Kadai on medium heat and add cumin seeds. When cumin starts crackling. then add the onion paste, ginger paste, and garlic paste and fry for 4 to 5 minutes. cook until its raw smell goes away.

Step 5:-Now Add the tomato-mustard-chili paste. and cook 4-5 min.

Step 6:- Add turmeric powder, coriander powder, and salt as taste. and mix well. Fry this spice mixture over low heat till it starts to release the oil. Stir the spice continuously.

Step 7:- When the start to release the oil from the mixture, add yogurt and cook 2-3 min. and after that add one and half cups of water, mix well and bring to a boil.

Step 8:-Now add the previously fried pieces of fish to the gravy and stir gently. Cook for another 4 to 5 minutes to reheat the fish.

Step 9:-Now your fish curry is ready to serve. garnish the curry with fresh, chopped coriander leaves.

Serve with freshly prepared plain rice.
